Dún Laoghaire (Dublin), Ireland
Day twenty-one brought Zuiderdam
into Dún Laoghaire near Dublin. We
have arranged a self-guided tour for
ourselves. First thing after breakfast,
we took a tender to Dun Laoghaire.
We then walked from the terminal
to a Starbuck's in town, where we hailed an Uber that turned into a taxi later {it's a long story). anyway, we arrived at our destination, Trinity College, to visit the Book of Kells. We walked through the exhibits, the chapel and
library (I can barely be seen standing
behind an old harp
there).
We walked to the
Temple Bar to have
lunch, as planned.
After several wrong turns we found it (the difficulty was that the entire region is referred to as Temple
Bar).
Because Bow Street was too far to walk from the Temple Bar, we took another Uber(?) to the Jameson Distillery. We had opted for the Jameson Experience, that included a welcome cocktail and forty-five minute guided tour ending with a tasting of three Jameson
whiskeys.
When we called for another Uber, we asked about why the Uber driver ran a meter for the trip. The reason was that Uber doesn't give quotes for rides, just estimates. The cost is actually determined from the meter reading. This agreement equalizes competition between Uber and taxi companies.
